The Yankees’ first free agent signing of the offseason wasn’t a $700-million commitment to bring back right fielder Juan Soto or adding a second baseman to replace Gleyber Torres or addressing their left field, first base or bullpen openings.
Journeyman pitcher Brandon Leibrandt, who has joined the Yankees on a minor-league deal, just adds some starting pitching depth, but the left-hander will be easy to root for in spring training even though he’ll be a 32-year-old with just seven games of big-league experience.
